Common Questions

Waxing & Threading FAQs

How much is a Brazilian wax in Wellington?

Brazilian wax at Glowe Aesthetics is $75 for female clients and $85 for male clients (Menzilian). G-string is $55 and Basic Bikini is $48. We use professional-grade wax suited to sensitive areas.

How long should my hair be before waxing?

At least 5mm (¼ inch) — about two to three weeks of growth from your last shave or wax. Too short and the wax can't grip; too long and the experience is more uncomfortable than it needs to be.

Does waxing hurt?

There's a brief sting on each pull, but professional technique minimises discomfort. First-time clients often find it less painful than expected. Pain reduces significantly with repeat appointments as the hair grows back finer and weaker.

How often should I get waxed?

Every 3 to 5 weeks for most areas, depending on your hair growth rate. Consistent waxing weakens the hair follicle over time — many regular clients see significantly reduced regrowth after 6+ months.

What should I avoid before and after waxing?

Before: avoid caffeine and alcohol on the day, and don't moisturise the area. After: avoid hot baths, saunas, gym sessions, tight clothing and sun for 24 hours. No exfoliation for 48 hours. After that, gentle exfoliation 2-3 times a week prevents ingrown hairs.

Waxing vs laser hair removal?

Waxing is one-off, lasts 3-5 weeks, and works on any hair colour. Laser is a course of treatments (typically 6-8 sessions), works best on darker hair against lighter skin, and is the longer-term solution. We're happy to talk through what suits your goal and budget at your appointment.
